Take a Rest
Pain and hurt. Life brings it and brings it often. As we struggle with these things we can find peace if we look. Let me share with you why being out in the wild doing photography of the Milky Way helps me gain perspective and peace in the struggles of life.
Michigan
The “Fall Color Tour” across Michigan has been less than successful in my book.
Today, as I think on how and why and also the parameters under which one typically must attempt photography and travel in Michigan, I am reminded of what my entire life was like living here. Well, in most respects any way.
Watch Your 6
There’s a saying in the military and law enforcement. “Watch your 6”.
We all need someone to walk by our side and watch out back. Sometimes we develop tunnel vision to such a degree that we miss something better.
When we have people willing to walk with us to watch our 6 we stand better chances to succeed.
When we have someone willing to help us by watching our back, we may avert disaster in our life.
It’s imperative that we all learn to 1) have a few in our lives willing to watch our backs and 2) learn to trust those who ARE watching our 6.
Here’s a brief story from a shot I otherwise would never have attained had someone not been looking behind me.
The Mountains Remind Us
The mountains remind us of God’s power and majesty. Yet, we really can sense him in the tiny details of our life. When he shows up and demonstrates in the smallest of ways, with the mountains as backdrop, he cares it seems, at least for me, to be more meaningful.
Rain Precedes
Life is like hiking in the mountains trying to do photography. Rarely does it all go as planned. Often, it’s a struggle to find our way to the great shot.
Paradoxically, rain and storms often bring the most dramatic skies related to photography. That applies to life in general.
