A Once in a Lifetime Reflection at Badwater Basin

To me, the Death Valley National Park is a host to some of the most surreal and epic landscapes for photography. The Badwater Basin is no exception. In October of 2023 the entire coast of California was hammered by a massive Cyclone. This cyclone moved it’s way inland and dumped unheard of amounts of rain into the Death Valley National Park. So much so, the entire park was shut down for a month or more due to the extreme devastation to the landscape and infrastructure. Further, in February of 2024, another massive rain storm dumped even more water across the valley. As such, the Badwater Basin, sometimes called Lake Manly had so much water within it’s borders, folks were able to canoe and kayak its vast expanse. During my time in the park during my spring visit, I was treated to a calm still morning in which I could do some once in a lifetime reflection photography of the Panamint Mountain range, with Telescope peak in it’s middle.

This is the shot I was able to capture and I want to share this with you.
