An Old Movie Set
Our final night in Kanab Utah was spent driving to the old, historic movie set/site called the Paria Townsite. A short 5 mile drive into what seemed like another world.
The views were epic and I was awestruck by the landscape in the area. No wonder the Mormons wanted to settle out there.

Coral Pink
The Coral Pink Sand Dune State Park in Utah is one not to miss should you be in the region visiting. This park is full of photographic opportunity. It’s an OHV Mecca, so you should know; going there for a vacation is going to mean plenty of OHV noise. However, outside the park are a load of Boondocking/Dispersed camping opportunities.

Buckskin Gulch
The Buckskin Gulch via the Wire Pass trailhead is one of the more epic hikes I have ever done. This past Christmas marks the second time I’ve ventured into this, one of the worlds largest slot canyons. The canyon is part of the Coyote Buttes North region and The Wire Pass trailhead is the same trail for the world famous Wave hike. Both require permits. Buckskin is a day use permit and not part of the lottery system that controls hikes to The Wave.
If you are ever in this area, don’t miss this hike. It’s utterly astounding and amazing and full of photography. Check out this post from some photography suggestions if you plan to hike to take photos.

Utah for Christmas
Well, we spent a full 9 days in the small city of Kanab, UT for Christmas with two of my sons and their ladies. While there, we made a number of hikes and today I want to share with you one of my all time favorites, the Deer Trap Mountain trail in Zion National Park.

A Night in Flagstaff
On our way out of the Phoenix area, we headed north through Sedona and into the Flagstaff area of Arizona. The changes in elevation brought a significant temperature and scenery change. While we only stayed one night, it was an epic night (errr morning)

A Video from Arizona
We spent a number of weeks in a dispersed camping environment in Arizona. Specifically in the Queens Valley area. A location on Arizona State Trust land provided, through the permitting process in Arizona, an opportunity to dispersed camp…or boondock, for a total of 14 days. We met some great life long friends along the way. Please enjoy this update video from the floor of the Arizona Desert.

Elephant Butte
The work on the road has begun and as I find my way along this journey, I am starting to find a system in my day to day workflow.
While staying in the Elephant Butte area, I have been treated to some fairly pretty skies at night and in the morning. I thought i’d share them with you.

Take a Rest
Pain and hurt. Life brings it and brings it often. As we struggle with these things we can find peace if we look. Let me share with you why being out in the wild doing photography of the Milky Way helps me gain perspective and peace in the struggles of life.

Michigan
The “Fall Color Tour” across Michigan has been less than successful in my book.
Today, as I think on how and why and also the parameters under which one typically must attempt photography and travel in Michigan, I am reminded of what my entire life was like living here. Well, in most respects any way.
