The Wedge Overlook Utah

Van Life at the Edge of the Mini Grand Canyon

As I headed away from the state of Washington, I made up my mind I wanted to again spend a few weeks in Utah.

Utah, as a state, is at the top of my list of favorite places to do landscape photography. Utah boasts the Fab 5 national parks. Capitol Reef, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, and Zion. All of which are located in the state of Utah.

All of these parks are epic to visit. However, there is so much more in Utah. The Dixie National Forest hosts epic back country camping opportunity as does the San Raphael Swell (where The Wedge is located) and the Grand Staircase Escalante.

This just scratches the surface.

A lot of Bureau of Land Management property is available in the state as well. Otherwise known as BLM land.

There is Bears Ear National Monument and Natural Bridges National Monument. to name a few. Valley of the Gods is an epic location as well. I’ve spent a bit in all three.

My Campsite View at Sunrise

This post focuses primarily on my stay at The Mini Grand Canyon, or the Wedge.

I loved it there. I probably could have stayed a little longer. Where I ended up parking the van sported canyon side camping with fire pits no less.

Also, at the day parking I found a well kept, clean, pit toilet facility. Something any and all of us who travel small (in a mini van) surely appreciate. Keeps the usage of the portable toilet down and that’s always a tremendously helpful situation.

Sunrise Photo with My Mavic Air 2

I didn’t find as much success photographically as I had hoped there might end up being, but there was plenty of opportunity to fly the Mavic Air 2 for some really awesome drone footage.

I captured a few photos which I am sharing with you in the gallery link below. Click on any image to see the full size. Even grabbed a sunrise shot with the drone!

Enjoy and also, please be sure to check out the vid. It has a number of neat live action video of the canyon and sunrise.

Until next time,
