Panorama with Mavic Air 2S

A Flight above International Drive in the Morning

A 180 Degree Panorama

I decided to head out at 4:30 am with the DJI Mavic Air 2s to test it’s limits regarding shooting a panorama in the dark.

International Drive, or I Drive in the city of Orlando, FL, is the home have a massive evening entertainment district including many famous restaurants, hotels, bars, and theaters. It’s a very, VERY busy place at night.

In the morning, not so much.

The great thing about the area is it remains well lit most of the night, into the morning hours. Well, the attractions do. Most of the restaurants are lights out.

BUT the huge Ferris Wheel called the Orlando Eye and it’s partner thrill rides sport their lights all night til sunrise. These make a massive print on the Orlando Skyline.

It’s not technically downtown. It’s part of the Universal Studios and Sea World cooridor.

I don’t like going there at night. It’s so hectic.

But on this day, this morning, there was not a soul to be found.

A Wide Angle Shot

I wanted to shoot some Panoramas with the drone from way up high having the wheel and it’s companion Needle as the main and central focus of the shot.

The Air 2 S does an amazing job of capture in low light situations. I am supremely impressed.

Another test I wanted to register was to see if Lightroom could stitch together the photos the drone would ultimately take in spite of the fact it would be dealing with a black sky with little to no lines through it.

This presents the software with significant challenges as it can’t determine easily the overlap in the photos taken as it measures and calculates which photos go where.

I am pleased to report that this adventure provided two beautiful panorama of the I Drive area. One in a Wide Angle and another in a full 180 degree shot.

Yet again, I am supremely impressed with the power of this little drone combined with Adobe Lightroom, my choice for post processing of digital images.

You can watch the attached video below to get a glimpse into my word of not only flying, shooting, but also of the workflow post shooting, on my computer and through Lightroom.

Let me know if you have questions or thoughts.

Til next time,

rob out
