Natural Bridges
The final stop on our September road trip was Natural Bridges National Monument. Ed and I spent a few days in the park doing some photography and in general just enjoying the scenery.
I’ll tell you, as you will see in this video, I have a heck of a time getting “Natural Bridges National Monument” out of my mouth. Tongue twists me all the time.
If you are not familiar with this area, it’s sandwiched between the Bears Ear National Monument land in Utah. It’s due south of the southern end of Canyonlands National Park.
It’s a really special area.
We had come from Bryce Canyon and drove through the Grand Staircase. 89a. What a drive!
This drive took us through the Vermillion Cliffs as well as Mexican Hat and Monument Valley.
It was very eerie driving through a lot of the areas. Many of them are Indian Reservations. They were all like ghost towns.
“Closed due to Covid” was all over the place.
Signs spray painted on 4x8 sheets of plywood, affixed to fence gates that were locked shut.
There was a drive in particular that blew our minds.
To get to Natural Bridges, we drove through Valley of the Gods. We turned left onto hwy 261 due north of Forest Gump Hill and Mexican Hat.
Immediately after going through Hat, we turned left and drove a long, desolate highway through the Valley of the Gods. (Not to be confused with the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs).
There came a spot on 261 that drove what felt like straight up the side of a cliff. I regret sorely not taking the time in that location to fly the drone and grab some footage.
It was spectacular up on the top. From there, we stayed on the top of that cliff all the way to the Bridges Monument.
I would do that drive all over again. In fact, I think I want to take my special wife friend there.
In this video, you are going to see some really great photography and part of the area I am outlining above.
I’d also like to share below, at the bottom of this post, a few of the really special shots I was able to get.
I hope you enjoy this video and it’s content. It rounds out and finishes up our trip that was the Fall Road Trip 2020.
