Sunrise In North Cascades National Park

North Cascades Washington

After visiting Glacier National Park in Montana for better than a week doing a ton of Photography, I made my way to Spokane, Washington.

Joelle had flown into Bozeman MT to meet me for our Glacier National Park adventure. The best place from which for her to fly home was out of Spokane given I was headed to the parks in Washington State.

After dropping her off early morning at the airport, I began my trek up to the very northern part of Washington. North Cascades is an incredibly remote national park that backs right up to the border of Canada.

I was awestruck in this park particularly by it’s remoteness. It is really off the grid.

Many of the hikes and back country camping require significant hiking and route finding.

While there are a number of great campsites and camp grounds, most, if not all I believe are national park style. Pretty much zero amenities.

It’s funny. Being way out there so often on this trip, I find it interesting how much doing so brings a sense of joy over small things; very clean and stocked pit toilets for example. This was my experience at the various locations I chose to stay in North Cascades.

Because it was so very late in the year while I was there (if September could classify as late) the campgrounds were open, and were free. The park service had shut down for the season and given this parks remote nature, it’s pretty much an “on your own” adventure much after about September 15th.

I loved it there and plan to head back.

I wanted to photograph the Picket Range for example, but the cloud cover typical of Washington made it impossible for the duration of my stay.

However, I was not disappointed in what I found when photographing Diablo lake and the Thunder Knob overlook.

I hope you enjoy this video and also the images that will show up in there.

Thanks for stopping by and there’s a ton more on it’s way.

I recommend subscribing to the site to be kept abreast of it’s newest postings.
