Sunrise With a Drone at Teddy Roosevelt

It was a lovely few days at Theodore Roosevelt National Park North Unit for me in September.

I stayed there in the van while doing the whole vanlife thing. I opted for the North Unit due in large part to it being so very remote. I was not disappointed.

I think I was one of only about 5 campers staying inside the park campground.

Note to self. Next time, use the fee camping option in a lovely free campground with pit toilets no less!

This is a Baldlands type area that is replete with opportunity for amazing landscape photography.

The trick here, as I took the drone out is finding a legal place from which to launch the drone and land the drone should I wish to get some aerial video and photography.

The way in which the Cottonwood trees line the river bed cutting through the canyon made for a very special photograph from way up in the air. They were bright yellow in color as I was there in what would classify as the fall for that region.

In order to legally fly and get beautiful drone aerial photographs and video, I used the free campground mentioned above as it backs right up to the border of the park.

On the following morning, I then found the border on the extreme north end of the park lined by a park fence. I found location where the fence had enough clearance underneath to be able to get outside the park boundary and launch the Mavic Air 2.

The prettiest drone photographs and video were taken from this location. The north unit is prettiest at the very end of the road which travels through this part of the park.

Using Google Maps I was able to navigate myself via hiking (foot) travel to the edge of the park while back packing the drone.

I was pleased with the opportunity to get the amazing film reel you will see in the videos below.

Til next time,
