Today’s video release will take us to the Buckskin Gulch area. The Paria Canyon and the Buckskin Gulch area are replete with amazing photographic opportunities.

I had no idea these places existed.

It wasn’t until I met a couple of folks at my stop in the Bisti Wilderness that I learned about this place called Buckskin Gulch.

I opted to take off from what is called the Wire Pass trail head and made my way in about 5 miles before turning around to come back.

I was awestruck by the beauty that was present almost immediately upon entering the canyon walls.

The trailhead is the same trail head/parking lot you use to access The Wave (video for that coming soon).

It’s a rather long, bumpy drive to get into the portion you need to get to in order to start your hike. However, it’s not impossible. 4x4 clearance isn’t required here. Although, you DO want to take it slow. There are a lot of rocks and potholes to navigate past.

I most certainly would head out this way and hike it again.

When I was there, I hit it about mid day. I think if I were to go again, I would head out in the evening and stay overnight in the van at the trail head. This is allowed, per the park ranger staff.

A day use permit is required to hike this trail, so I would grab that in Kanab the day before. The cool of the morning would make for a great hike in the canyon. Not to mention making the lighting even more epic inside it’s walls as the morning wears on.

That’s how I’d do it if I had the chance to do so again.
